MEETINGS

TYPES OF MEETINGS

There are many types of ACA Meetings:  in-person (face to face)onlinetelephoneaudio/online,  and now a hybrid format which are meetings that choose to meet both in-person and online.

*Awakening Together only promotes online meetings; however we encourage you to search the WSO meeting directory to explore what meeting type is best for your recovery.

7TH TRADITION

Tradition Seven instructs ACA groups to be fully self-supporting and to decline outside contributions. The Tradition also reminds us of the spiritual principle of giving, and of giving with a willingness to help another.

Some members give their time in sponsorship, while others give their talents in the service structure. We all try to support our group and the service structure as best as we can.

Tradition Seven teaches us how to give and how to handle money in a spiritual manner.

OPEN VS CLOSED MEETINGS

Closed – Only for people who self-identify under ACA’s Tradition 3, which states, “The only requirement for membership is a desire to recover from the effects of growing up in an alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional family.”

Open – Open to anyone (ACA members, family, friends, and/or professionals)

WHAT WE DO IN MEETINGS

  • We share what is happening in our lives, and how we are dealing with these issues in our recovery program (i.e., we share our experience, strength, and hope).

  • We build a personal support network.

  • We practice our recovery and personal boundaries by giving service.

WHAT WE DON'T DO IN MEETINGS

  • We do not engage in crosstalk.

  • We do not criticize.

  • We do not comment on what others say.

  • We do not offer advice.

  • We do not distract others from the person speaking by word, whisper, gesture, noise, or movement.

  • We do not violate the anonymity of others.

  • We do not repeat what is said in meetings (in any context).
